Description
The Bonsai Micro is an all in one pod system designed to make mushroom cultivation super simple and super fun. No more needles, no more torches and no more mold. It’s portable, handheld, and has an adjustable micro climate. It’s simple enough for grandma, safe enough for kids and complex enough for experts.

Coming soon! In January of 2025 we’re launching the micro on kickstarter. If you’ve got an early release kit here are the basic instructions. I’ll be adding a video with more details in the next couple days. Follow on instagram for updates. I have instructional videos for every part of the process that will be available very soon.
*The micro will be available for both wood and coir loving mushrooms.
How To Use The Bonsai Micro
Step 1 – Inoculate
Disinfect injection port and syringe with an alcohol pad. In one motion unscrew the syringe cap and screw it into the injection port. Press the plunger to inoculate the pod with the liquid culture. Hold the luer port to unscrew the syringe and give the pod a really good shake for 30 seconds. Store the pod at room temperature out of direct sunlight.
Step 2 – Colonization
Watch as the mushroom mycelium colonizes the substrate. Put it somewhere you’ll see everyday and note it’s progress. When the contents are completely white the pod is ready to go to fruiting conditions.
Step 3 – Fruiting
Put the hygrometer into the air collar. Adjust the air holes to open. Screw the humidity dome onto the air dial. Remove the pod lid and screw the capsule together. This setting should last you throughout the entire grow with the Reishi mushrooms. You can wrap the base pod in something warm to increase the temperature. Reishi are phototropic so they will grow towards the direction of light. Use this to form them in cool and interesting ways!
Step 4 – Harvesting
When the Reishi mushrooms are ready to harvest you can either dry them for tea or you can dry them then seal them for decorative art in a clear resin.
Step 5 – Reusing the pod
Refill the pod with grain and substrate then sterilize in an instapot or pressure canner. I’ll add more information and an instructional video for this very soon.

More Info
The micro doesn’t need the top of the capsule to fruit. You can take the colonized cake out of the pod and place it into a larger container like this one. Just crack the lid for airflow and mist it enough so there are micro beads of water on the surface. This is called a “shotgun fruiting chamber.”
Reishi don’t produce multiple flushes but other mushrooms do. The micro is packed with nutrients. For our coir loving pods you can expect to yield around an ounce dry.
